Stressful summers are no good. Enjoyable, fun summers…ahhh, that’s where the magic happens. But with kids out of school, work still calling your name, and high expectations to meet, summer can feel the very opposite of enjoyable.

But, it doesn’t have to be that way. Decide that you are going to enjoy yourself and take just a few minutes to commit to a few of the things on this list this week. You’ll be one step closer to where you want to be.

Be Realistic

Decide on Fun

Instead of trying to do everything, pick a few things you value to prioritize over the summer. I try to prioritize family reading time and shared dinners. For you it may be early bedtimes and lots of BBQ’s. Decide what you want to be non-negotiable and let the rest go.

It can be temping to say yes to every fun thing that you come across. Free kid movies – YES! Boating on the lake – YES! Late night swim party – YES! But saying yes too many times can tire everyone out. The fun things are fun because they are different and unique – too many of them and it can start to feel like a drag. jDecide what is FUN to you and your family and let the rest of the things go.
